Using its own purchasing data, Instacart has revealed the candy that is purchased most for Halloween in the United States.

We are not surprised what that data reveals and are very happy that candy corn is not No. 1.

Instacart’s data shows “the top two most popular Halloween candies in America are Peanut M&M’s and M&M’s in terms of total candy weight sold via Instacart.”

Last year, in the weeks leading up to Oct. 31, Instacart said its customers purchased more than 2.5 million pounds of candy.

“With candy at the center of Halloween festivities, it should come as no surprise that 43% of all candy purchases in October take place during the last week of the month according to Instacart data,” said Laurentia Romaniuk, Instacart’s trends expert.

“What’s actually spooky is that October 31st is the peak day for Halloween candy purchases as many households scramble to get ready for trick-or-treaters. Luckily Instacart can deliver Halloween candy in as fast as 30 minutes if you find yourself in a scary pinch!”

The Top 10 candy products sold via Instacart by weight are:

1. Peanut M&M’s

2. Plain M&M’s

3. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

4. Hershey’s Milk Chocolate

5. Twizzlers

6. Snickers

7. Kit Kat

8. Candy corn

9. Sour Patch Kids

10. Haribo Goldbears

We’re good with the first seven, after that things get a bit scary.

Even worse? Instacart data also was used to determine the “most uniquely popular” Halloween candies by state. In Pennsylvania, the answer was Swedish fish. Huh? Other “uniquely popular” candies were Red Vines and Twizzlers, Ferrero Rocher, Life Savers and Lindt Truffles.

Last month, we shared the Candystore.com Halloween candy data that said the favorite in Pa. was Hershey’s Miniatures. That survey found that the most popular in the entire United States was Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Candy corn was a repeat loser on Candystore.com’s list of the worst Halloween candy.

Brach’s candy company did its own candy corn survey and found that Californians eat the most of the iconic yellow, orange and white kernel-shaped candy.

But, Instacart shoppers like it. It was the favorite in Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Who buys the most Halloween candy? Instacart says it is Utah, Idaho, Alaska, Montana and Washington.

And, speaking of candy, did you hear that Snickers has a new flavor – Cinnamon Bun. Yep, but you can only buy it at Walmart.
