Charlotte Porath is weaving a web of love for furry creatures great and small.
The Hempfield girl has two cats, Bella and Bonkers. And she always has to stop and pet all of the neighborhood dogs and cats when she goes out walking with her mother and 22-month old brother, Landon.
“She carries treats for them and she knows them all by name,” her mother, Stacey Porath said.
Charlotte was crushed recently when she learned there was a shelter full of homeless pets not far from home.
“I told her not every animal has a good home like her kitties do,” Stacey Porath said.
The tiny blond, just starting kindergarten, thought about it for a while, then told her parents she would gladly forego presents for her sixth birthday. Instead of Barbie dolls, Legos or games, she asked friends and family members to bring a donation for the shelter animals to her birthday celebrations.
They were happy to comply.
The daughter of Kevin and Stacey Porath received gifts that amounted to two carloads of dog food and cat food, cat litter, treats and toys for cats and dogs, bleach and cleaners, and monetary donations.
“She was so excited and we were so proud of her. She’s always loved animals and this shows just how much she cares,” Stacey Porath said.
Friday, August 13th, Charlotte, dressed in her favorite doggy t-shirt, traveled to the Animal Friends Shelter in Youngwood with her family and donated the two car loads full of items plus $200.
She won’t soon forget her trip to the shelter and the gifts that helped grow her web of love.
“I got to see the animals,” Charlotte said. “And they liked me, especially Socks, the cat.”
