Rising Penn State junior golfer Olivia Zambruno remained in the chase for a title at the 83rd Pennsylvania Women’s Amateur Championship at Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Militia Hill course.
A Greensburg Central Catholic graduate, Zambruno downed Julia McLaughlin of Saucon Valley Country Club, 5 & 4, in a quarterfinal match Friday in the championship bracket.
A Pleasant Valley Golf Club member, Zambruno went ahead with a par (4) on the seventh hole and added to her lead by winning five of the next six holes before closing the match with a par on the par-5 No. 14.
Another area player to reach the semifinals is Nina Busch, an incoming sophomore at Fox Chapel who plays out of Oakmont Country Club.
Busch topped Muffy McCabe of Philadelphia Country Club, 3 & 2.

Former Hempfield and North Carolina star Katie Miller, meanwhile, lost to Morgan Frazier, a rising Navy senior, 3 & 2. Miller, a three-time state amateur champion who calls Ligonier Country Club her home course, never led in the quarterfinal match.
Semifinal matches on Saturday morning have Zambruno facing Samantha Staudt (Applecross Country Club) and Busch going against Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley Country Club).
The championship match is Saturday afternoon.
