The NHL regular season is winding down.
But when will the Stanley Cup Playoffs start? As of Thursday, we now know when all the series will start.
The league announced last week that Washington Capitals vs. Boston Bruins playoff series, the East division’s No. 2 vs. No. 3 matchup, will start Saturday with Game 1 on NBC.
On Thursday, the NHL announced the starts of the rest of the Stanley Cup Playoff series.
In the East, the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders series starts Sunday with Game 1 at noon.
In the Central, the Nashville Predators and Carolina Hurricanes series starts Monday. The Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers series starts Sunday.
In the West, the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues series gets going Monday. The Vegas Golden Knights-Minnesota Wild playoff matchup starts Sunday.
In the North, the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers series starts May 19. The Montreal Canadiens-Toronto Maple Leafs series starts with Game 1 on May 20.
The Central, West and East divisions have all finished regular season games. With the Vancouver Canucks having eight games postponed because of a covid-19 outbreak within the team, the North division will now finish later than the other divisions. (The Canucks will play in the last four regular-season games of the season to complete their 56-game campaign.)
Originally set to end May 8, the regular season will now end May 19, the NHL announced last week. The NHL has a last possible day for the Stanley Cup Final set for July 9 (subject to change).
Excluding last season, which was delayed by the pandemic, the regular season has ended on a Saturday or Sunday the previous five seasons (2014-15 season to 2018-19 season), according to Hockey Reference. The Stanley Cup Playoffs have started the following Wednesday in each of those five seasons.
