Iowa’s Michael Kemerer, right, takes on Cal Poly’s Bernie Truax during their 174-pound match in the semifinal round of the NCAA wrestling championships Friday, March 19, 2021, in St. Louis.

Five-time All-American wrestler Michael Kemerer, a former standout at Franklin Regional and Iowa, is joining the coaching staff at Brown.

Kemerer was an NCAA finalist in 2021 at 174 pounds.

In December, he posted on “X,” formerly known as Twitter, that he planned to return from competitive wrestling “after some reflection.”

“Pumped to transition 100% into coaching and incorporate everything I’ve learned over the years,” he posted. “Onward.”

“I am excited to join the Brown wrestling family,” Kemerer said in a Brown news release. “The trajectory of the program continues to grow, and I look forward to contributing.”

Recently, Kemerer served as resident athlete at Spartan Combat RTC, a world-class training facility in Ithaca, N.Y., where he also worked as an assistant coach.

“He is the final piece to what is now one of the more impressive staffs in the county,” Brown coach Jordan Leen said. “He is an elite wrestling mind and the perfect fit for our program.”
