West Point wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the winner’s bracket of the Pennsylvania Little League Softball 11U Tournament on Sunday.

Sparked by Ella Berkebile’s three-run homer in the first inning, West Point rolled to a 19-3 victory against Yough in three innings at home.

West Point advances to Tuesday’s championship game against the winner of Monday’s game between Yough and Loyalsock, which stayed alive with a 20-6 win against Greencastle Antrim.

Winning pitcher Riley Miller, Morgan Griffin and Berkebile each had four RBIs.

West Point scored five in the first inning, six in the second and eight in the third.

Miller allowed one earned run in two innings.

“We hit the ball really hard, and we got outstanding pitching,” West Point coach Jen Bova said. “Yough is a good team, and there is a good chance we’ll face them again.”

West Point pounded out 12 hits, including two each from Claire Mitchell (two RBIs), Laurel Howard (triple, three RBIs), Miller (triple), Griffin and Ava Shipman (triple).

West Point also took advantage of six Yough errors.

Yough scored a run in the first inning on a single by Sidney Bergman and added two in the second inning off Jayden Rosiek’s grounder and Kylee Odelli’s single.

“The hitting was where it needed to be,” Bova said. “Yough couldn’t pitch us inside or outside. We were hitting everything.

“We played our game. I expect a tougher game from them on Tuesday.”
