The annual Westmoreland County Amateur golf tournament is this weekend, and it is devoid of some of the young talent.

Missing from the field at Totteridge Golf Course near Crabtree is returning champion Brady Pevarnik of Latrobe and Palmer Jackson of Murrysville.

Pevarnik isn’t playing because he will be competing in the West Penn Open beginning Tuesday, and Jackson, who tied for second in the West Penn Amateur, is participating in the USGA Junior Amateur on Monday at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, and then Junior Boys PGA Championship on July 30 at Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford, Conn.

Jackson shot 5-under-par 139 to win the Junior Boys PGA Championship qualifier. He shot 2-under 70 during his first 18 holes and 3-under 69 on his second 18.

While Pevarnik and Jackson are missing from the field, there are still numerous top golfers.

Making his first appearance is Oakmont native and Hannastown Golf Club member Sean Knapp, who joined the club because of top young talent he could face.

“You can always find a good game there,” Knapp said. “I’m looking forward to the tournament.”

Greensburg’s Mark Goetz, who tied for second with Jackson at the West Penn Amateur, still is deciding if he is going to enter.

Also entered in the tournament are Kevin Fajt, Arnie Cutrell, Brandon Antus, Vince Zachetti, Brian Fajt and Westmoreland Junior champion Sam Napper.

The tournament begins 11 a.m. on Saturday, and the final round is noon on Sunday.
