Steelers QB Kenny Pickett's SUV recovered after being taken from Monroeville dealership, Murrysville man charged
A Murrysville man is charged with unauthorized use of vehicles after he allegedly took Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett’s SUV from a Monroeville car dealership.
Monroeville police said Pickett was at Bowser Chevrolet along Route 286 doing some advertising Wednesday afternoon when Christopher Carter, 60, of Railroad Lane took his 2023 Hyundai Genesis.
Police and staffers reviewed video footage and saw a man, later identified as Carter, walk into the dealership around 1 p.m. and leave in Pickett’s SUV around 3:20 p.m. According to the criminal complaint, Carter left his car at the dealership. Police were able to identify him based on that vehicle’s registration and matching a photo of him to video footage.
The complaint stated Monroeville police then requested help from Murrysville police in an attempt to contact Carter at his home, only to find out police were already there for a domestic dispute.
Pickett’s SUV was in Carter’s driveway.
It had scratches and scuffs that were not there prior to it being taken, the complaint read.
The Pittsburgh Steelers had little to say about the incident, other than to confirm Pickett’s playbook, which was in the SUV when it was taken, was returned to him.
Carter is charged with theft, receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
An employee at the dealership declined to comment Friday afternoon. Online court documents show a preliminary hearing had not been scheduled as of Friday evening.
