A large crowd gathers to get a look and take photographs at the giant rubber duck at Point State Park, Downtown Sunday, October 20, 2013.

Welp, it looks like Pittsburgh has a new cult hero in Devlin “Duck” Hodges.

The third-string quarterback, who didn’t even make the final cut for the season but has recently been named a starter, is loved by some yinzers so much that they are calling for the 40-foot inflatable rubber duck that floated off the banks of Point State Park in 2013 to be brought back.

A petition started on change.org by user Tyal Prince on Monday demanded that Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto bring that lovable ducky back.

“The people of Pittsburgh (aka Yinzers, aka Stiller Gang aka Steelers Nation) demand Mayor Peduto to return the legendary Rubber Ducky of 2013 to the Allegheny river in honor of Devlin ‘Duck’ Hodges. We need 100,000 signatures to show the city we mean business,” the post said.

As of 9 p.m. Tuesday, the petition had 1,150 signatures.

The duck came to Pittsburgh thanks to the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. The four-story-tall Rubber Duck was produced by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. During the duck’s nearly month-long float on the Allegheny River, thousands flocked to see it.
