New England Patriots tight end Matt Sokol (87) prior to an NFL football game, Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, in Foxborough, Mass.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made roster moves before the start of the first padded practice of training camp Tuesday morning.

They signed cornerback Kyler McMichael and tight end Matt Sokol.

In corresponding moves, they released defensive back Josiah Scott and wide receiver Marquez Callaway.

McMichael signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent after the 2022 NFL Draft. He then spent the 2022 season on the Buffalo practice squad. He was claimed off waivers by Arizona this past offseason.

At North Carolina, he had 44 tackles, eight passes defended and an interception in 21 games.

Sokol was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2019 and has been on the practice squads with the Chargers, Jacksonville, Detroit and New England. He spent limited time on the Chargers’ and Patriots’ active rosters.

Sokol had 31 catches for 348 yards and two touchdowns in 52 games at Michigan State.
