With Chris Boswell unavailable because of a groin injury he suffered late in the week, the Steelers are turning to a kicker they had compete in training camp.

Nick Sciba, a rookie free agent, was signed to the practice squad and then elevated to the 53-man roster Saturday. He will kick for the Steelers on Sunday in their game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field and return to the practice squad after the game. He will replace Boswell, who was downgraded to “out” Saturday because of his right groin strain.

The Steelers, however, did not activate outside linebacker T.J. Watt from injured reserve. His return will wait until after the team’s bye week.

Sciba attended Wake Forest and is the NCAA’s all-time leader in field goal accuracy at 89.9%.

The Steelers also announced Saturday that cornerback Josh Jackson has been downgraded to “out” because of a groin injury. Cornerback Levi Wallace (shoulder) and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi (knee) already have been ruled out.

With Ogunjobi out, the Steelers elevated defensive lineman Carlos Davis from the practice squad. To make room for Sciba, the Steelers waived wide receiver Josh Malone from the practice squad.
