Steelers draftee, Ohio native Justin Layne clears house of Browns paraphernalia

Steelers 3b-round pick Justin Layne goes through drills during rookie mini camp Friday, May 10, 2019 at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.

Justin Layne was born and went to high school in Cleveland. It’s not surprising, then, that he was raised a Cleveland Browns fan. And a big one.

Getting drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers? Yeah, that changed things.

“Oh yeah, Browns everywhere,” Layne said of his house – before April 26.

No more, though, for the family of the third-round cornerback from Michigan State.

“My dad took it all down and replaced it,” Layne said from Steelers rookie minicamp at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “Literally everything; every flag I had. Everything. So, it’s all done. We are fully committed (to the Steelers).”

Photos of the Layne’s bathroom decked out in Browns colors circulated on social media over the days after Layne was drafted No. 83 overall

But by April 29 and after indirectly being “called out” on Twitter by a Browns fan for sticking with the Browns (suggesting Dre Layne would prefer to wear the jersey of a different cornerback drafted – Cleveland’s Greedy Williams), the elder Layne set the record straight about his fandom and about his bathroom.

“I don’t know what he did with (his Browns items),” Justin Layne said of his father, “but all my (Browns) stuff is gone. I threw all my stuff away. I don’t have no use for it.”
