Greensburg Central Catholic’s Tommy Pellis plays for Seton Hill during the 2019 season.

Tommy Pellis is glad he came back for a fifth baseball season at Seton Hill.

So are the Griffins.

A grad student outfielder and Greensburg Central Catholic grad, Pellis is having his best college season, and reaping the awards that can come with it.

National prominence is nothing new to the Griffins program, and now it has touched Pellis.

He was selected as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Player of the Week, the first Griffins player to earn the honor. He also was named the NCBWA Division II National Hitter of the Week, and the NCBWA Atlantic Regional Hitter of the Week. During a six-game unbeaten stretch for the Griffins, Pellis went 11 for 24 (.458) with 10 runs, six home runs and 11 RBIs. His slugging % for the week: 1.208.

He had two-homer games against Slippery Rock and Pitt-Johnstown.

Pellis will lead Seton Hill (32-4) into Sunday’s best-of-3 PSAC semifinal series against Mercyhurst (27-13) in Greensburg. Game 1 starts at noon, with Game 2 to follow.

No. 7-ranked Seton Hill is 21-0 at home.

Pellis leads the Griffins in nearly every offensive category. He has a .443 average with 51 hits, 49 runs, 14 homers and 39 RBIs.
