Seton Hill baseball moves 1 win from national finals
The Seton Hill baseball team is one win away from advancing to the finals of the NCAA Division II tournament.
Vincenzo Rauso hit a three-run home run and starting pitcher Ben Vicini threw five effective innings as the Griffins defeated Millersville 5-2 in their second game at the Atlantic Regional tournament in Charleston, W. Va.
With the win, Seton Hill advances to the championship round at noon Sunday against the survivor of Saturday night’s elimination bracket play. The Griffins will need one win Sunday to advance to the national finals in Cary, N.C. Their opponent would need to win twice to move on.
After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, Seton Hill took the lead for good on an RBI double by Owen Sabol and a bases-loaded walk by Rauso in the bottom of the third.
When Rauso homered off the center fielder’s glove in fifth inning, scoring Tommy Pellis and Derek Orndorff, the Griffins had a 5-1 lead.
Vicini gave up one run in five innings to earn the win. Nash Bryan got the last five outs to record the save. Seton Hill improved to 37-6.
