There’s fast and then there’s fast.

Kansas City Royals outfielder Billy Hamilton showcased his motor to the baseball world Tuesday night when he scored off a sacrifice fly from second base.

In the bottom of the third inning, shortstop Adalberto Mondesi belted a fastball from Mariners pitcher Marco Gonzales to deep center.

The big swing took center fielder Mallex Smith to the warning track, where he fell to his knees fielding the pop-fly.

Unbeknownst to Smith, Hamilton took advantage of the misstep as he tagged at second base.

As the speedster approached third, coach Mike Jirschele waved him home.

Smith’s desperation throw was cut off, and the subsequent throw to home plate was late.

Catcher Omar Narvaez had no chance as Hamilton slid into home face-first, tying the game at 2 runs apiece.

And the look of disbelief from Smith:

Sometimes you gotta tip your hat to the competition.

Seattle beat Kansas City 6-3.
