The Vancouver Canucks won’t make a qualifying offer to Derrick Pouliot, letting the former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, according to a report by Rick Dhaliwal of Sportsnet 650 in Vancouver.
Pouliot, the eighth overall pick in the 2012 draft, had three goals, 12 points and a minus-1 rating in 62 games with the Canucks this year, but fell out of the lineup by the end of the season, dressing only four times from March 1 on.
The Penguins traded the 25-year-old Pouliot to Vancouver in October of 2017 for defenseman Andrey Pedan and a fourth-round draft pick.
Pedan didn’t appear in an NHL game for the Penguins and played in the KHL this season. The fourth-round pick went to Vegas in the Derick Brassard trade.
Follow the Pittsburgh Penguins all offseason long.
