Youth golfers from across the country will once again get to compete in the annual Drive, Chip and Putt competition, set to begin at hundreds of golf courses in the spring.

The 2021 competition is for golfers ages 7-15, who are broken up into four divisions. Players take part in contests that test their skills in — you guessed it — driving, chipping and putting.

There are local, subregional and regional qualifiers that will carve a large field down to 80 finalists — 40 boys and 40 girls — who will earn an invite to compete in the national finals at Augusta National Golf Club on April 4, 2021, just before the start of The Masters.

Qualifiers are conducted by the 41 sections of the PGA of America.

Of the 317 local qualifying sites, six are in the area: Green Oaks Country Club (June 18), Willowbrook Country Club (June 19), Butler Country Club (June 24), J.C. Martin Golf Course (June 25), Tam O’Shanter Golf Course (July 10), and Valley Brook Country Club (July 15).

Three players from each of those sites will advance to a subregional qualifier July 23 at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. There are 61 subregionals.

The top two finishers there go to the regional round. Area qualifiers will play in the regional Sept. 19 at historic Oakmont Country Club.

The top boy and girl there advances to Augusta.

Some other regional sites include Pebble Beach Golf Links, Quail Hollow Club, The Bear’s Club and TPC Scottsdale, Alotian Club, Colorado Golf Club, Medinah Country Club, Oakland Hills Country Club, and TPC River Highlands.

“It’s exciting to see Drive, Chip and Putt continue to grow the game and inspire juniors everywhere to love and play it,” said USGA President Mark Newell. “As a founding partner of the program, we’re able to witness, firsthand, the level of passion that junior golfers have and to know that the future of the game is in good hands.”

Registration for 2021 is now open.
