Pitt coach Jeff Capel opened the 2022-2023 season with a victory Monday and — prior to Friday’s game against West Virginia — he procured three signatures from high school seniors on their letters of intent.

Marlon Barnes, Jr., Carlton Carrington and Jaland Lowe comprise the No. 21 recruiting class in the nation — second in the ACC — according to 247 Sports.

“We are excited about our signing class as we have added three outstanding young men who have the ability to be terrific players in our program and great representatives of the University of Pittsburgh,” Capel said in a statement. “The versatility, balanced skill set and perimeter shooting ability of this group will be big assets to the program. This is a competitive, hard-working trio that is going to continue to improve because they love to be in the gym working on their craft.”

Lowe, a four-star guard ranked No. 83 overall by 247 Sports and No. 89 in ESPN’s Top 100, played for Houston Hoops in his native Texas on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League circuit. Lowe (6-foot-2, 165 pounds) averaged 18 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals while earning first-team All-Tournament and co-MVP honors at the 2022 Peach Jam. As a junior at Fort Bend Marshall High School, he averageds 25.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.

Barnes, a three-star forward , is ranked No. 5 in Ohio. He dealt with injuries at Brush High School and dropped from the top 100 in various recruiting rankings. At 6-6, 185, he helped Brush earn a 20-4 record and two state playoff victories.

Carrington, a 6-4, 180-pound guard, is ranked a four-star prospect (No. 94 overall). He was a second-team selection in the Baltimore Catholic League, helping lead St. Frances Academy to a 35-8 record and a regular-season championship. He averaged 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals per game.
