If you want to keep up with Pitt’s Kenny Pickett, Damarri Mathis and Cal Adomitis in their quest to reach the next level of football, you need to be willing to travel as much as they do.
All three Pitt products have been invited to be among the 324 former college players at the NFL Scouting Combine that will be held March 1-7 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Pickett, Mathis and Adomitis spent last week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., hoping to impress NFL coaches, executives and scouts. The intense push toward the NFL Draft on April 28-30 will intensify in Indianapolis.
All three players bring impressive backgrounds, led by Pickett (6-foot-3, 220 pounds), a Heisman Trophy finalist and All-American who set several Pitt passing records, including yards (12,303) and touchdowns (81). He also set a standard for Pitt quarterbacks by winning 32 of his 49 starts.
Mathis (5-11, 195) played in 49 games with 25 starts over his Pitt career. He recorded 87 tackles and five interceptions in four seasons, missing 2020 with a shoulder injury. Mathis and Pickett opted out of Pitt’s bowl game to prepare for the draft.
Adomitis (6-2, 250) also earned All-American status after long snapping in every Pitt game from 2017-21.
Penn State will be represented at the combine by eight players: wide receiver Jahan Dotson, defensive backs Jaquan Brisker and Tariq Castro-Fields, defensive linemen Arnold Ebiketie and Jesse Luketa, linebacker Brandon Smith, offensive lineman Rasheed Walker and punter Jordan Stout. They will be joined by West Virginia running back Leddie Brown.
