Justin Champagnie beat his timetable for recovery from a knee injury by two weeks and was in the starting lineup Saturday for Pitt’s game against Syracuse at Petersen Events Center.

Champagnie injured the knee in practice Dec. 20, but missed only two games after four others were postponed because of covid-19 issues. The original timetable for his recovery was set at six to eight weeks at the time of the injury.

A sophomore who recorded back-to-back 20-point, 20-rebound games before his injury, Champagnie is leading the ACC in rebounding (12.3 per game) and is third in scoring (17.8 points).
