Pat Narduzzi said junior center Jimmy Morrissey won’t play in Pitt’s Blue-Gold Game on Saturday at Heinz Field, but his recovery from season-ending foot surgery is going well.

Which is good news considering he is Pitt’s most experienced offensive lineman and perhaps its most valuable player on offense who doesn’t play quarterback.

Morrissey was injured Nov. 17 at Wake Forest, and has been limited during the first 13 spring practices.

“Jimmy is doing real good,” Pitt’s coach said. “He gets a post-practice workout. He can probably go out there and play (Saturday).”

But there’s no need to take any chances.

“We know Jimmy can play,” Narduzzi said.

Safety Damar Hamlin and cornerback Dane Jackson also will sit out the game with minor injuries, and Narduzzi said he may “DQ” middle linebacker Elias Reynolds.

“He’ll have limited reps for sure, if he goes,” Narduzzi said.

Defensive end Habakkuk Baldonado and running back Mychale Salahuddin won’t play, but they are expected to be ready to go this summer.
