There are few guarantees in college football, but Pitt sophomore defensive tackle Jaylen Twyman has found one.
His name is listed on all five All-America teams announced since the end of the season.
The most recent organization to recognize Twyman on its All-America team is the Football Writers Association of America. Twyman is a second-team selection. The FWAA joins the Associated Press, Sporting News, Walter Camp and The Athletic in honoring Twyman. He also was first-team All-ACC, selected by the league’s official voting panel and the AP.
Twyman, a native of Washington, D.C., leads the Panthers’ 11th-ranked defense with 12 tackles for loss and 10.5 quarterback sacks.
The last time an interior defensive lineman led Pitt in sacks was in 2013 when Aaron Donald had 11 and was on his way to NFL stardom with the Los Angeles Rams. Twyman switched his jersey number to 97 this season in tribute to Donald.
Pitt has recorded 49 sacks — its most since 1987 — and ranks second nationally with an average of 4.08 per game.
No. 17 signed, delivered
After getting 16 signed letters of intent Wednesday, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi said he expected No. 17 to arrive in his office Thursday. It happened when wide receiver Jordan Addison sent in his paperwork.
Addison delayed his big day so he could attend his sister’s graduation from Frostburg (Md.) State on Wednesday.
Addison was a four-year starter at Tuscarora High School in Frederick, Md., where he played receiver, quarterback and defensive back. He is the fourth Pitt prospect in the Class of 2020 who will start his career at wide receiver.
He is rated the nation’s No. 21 wide receiver and the sixth-ranked overall prospect in Maryland by 247Sports.com, No. 12 by ESPN and No. 21 by Rivals.com. He also was named to the Baltimore Touchdown Club’s “Super 22” list.
He’ll get a head start on his collegiate career when he enrolls in January. Eight of Pitt’s signed recruits have decided to enroll early.
“Jordan is an absolutely outstanding addition to our recruiting class,” Narduzzi said in a statement. “He is an explosive athlete who our receivers coach, Chris Beatty, has been recruiting for a long time.
“Jordan is a tremendous football player, but, more importantly, he is incredibly unselfish. He did not want to overshadow his sister’s graduation.
“Jordan is just a really impressive person all the way around and we’re thrilled he is a Panther.”
