Pitt’s defensive end group continued to get thinner Thursday when Antonio Camon, who was approaching his redshirt freshman season, entered the transfer portal.

Camon is the third Pitt defensive end to transfer since the end of the season.

At 6-foot-2, 235 pounds, he was part of coach Pat Narduzzi’s 2023 recruiting class, committing to the Panthers two years ago during a productive career at Tampa Bay (Fla.) Tech. In two seasons, Camon collected 44 tackles for a loss (including 18 sacks), with four fumble recoveries, three blocked kicks and an interception.

During his senior season, he was ranked the No. 87 overall prospect in Florida and the nation’s 39th strong side defensive end by Rivals.com.

Camon did not play in any games during Pitt’s 2023 season, giving him four seasons of eligibility to take to his new school. He was given credit for two sacks during the Blue Gold spring game Saturday.

Pitt has lost a total of four defensive ends since the end of last season, including Camon and Sam Okunlola, who transferred to Colorado. Senior Dayon Hayes announced this week his plans to transfer, and Nate Temple suffered a season-ending leg injury during spring drills.

That leaves Narduzzi and first-year defensive line coach Tim Daoust with decisions to make. They could move former ends Bam Brima and Nahki Johnson (West Mifflin) back to their original position after they practiced at defensive tackle this spring. Narduzzi also will look through the transfer portal for replacements.

Pitt was active in the portal this offseason, recruiting defensive ends Nate Matlack (Kansas State) and David Ojiegbe (Clemson). Sophomore defensive end Jimmy Scott remains on the roster, with redshirt freshman Maverick Gracios and first-year freshmen Sincere Edwards, Zach Crothers and Ty Yuhas.
