The Petersen Events Center will be a relatively quiet place for the foreseeable future.
Adhering to new state and local covid-19 restrictions, Pitt will not offer general seating for single game tickets for home basketball games and will limit attendance to 500 people, the university announced Tuesday morning.
Total capacity will include players and coaches and their families, working staff and special guests.
For venues that hold more than 10,000, capacity is capped at 5%, up to 2,500, according to the new limitations.
Capacity at the Pete is 12,508.
Pitt coach Jeff Capel has anticipated restrictions and has discussed them with his players.
“We have talked about it,” he said, “just the need for us to bring and have energy every day because that’s what we’re going to need in games.”
Pitt has scheduled its first home games Wednesday against St. Francis (Pa.) and Saturday against Drexel.
