Pitt announced its updated wrestling schedule Wednesday with the season opener set for Jan. 3 at the U.S. Naval Academy.

The Panthers’ first home match is Jan. 9 against Lehigh.

The Atlantic Coast Conference opener is Jan. 16 at home against Duke.

The Panthers will wrestle four other ACC opponents — at N.C. State on Jan. 22, at Virginia on Jan. 29, home against North Carolina on Feb. 5 and at Virginia Tech on Feb. 12.

The ACC tournament is scheduled for Feb. 28 at Raleigh and the NCAA Tournament is March 18-20 at St. Louis.

Heading the list of Pitt returnees are Derry’s Micky Phillippi, Franklin Regional’s Colton Camacho, Hempfield’s Luke Kemerer, Bethel Park’s Nino Bonaccorsi and South Park’s Dallas Bulsak and Jake Wentzel.

West Virginia opens the season Jan. 10 with three home matches against Ohio, Kent State and Virginia Tech.

The Mountaineers then host Bucknell (2 p.m.) and their Big 12 opener against Oklahoma (5 p.m.) on Jan. 17.

WVU’s other Big 12 matches are Northern Colorado at home Jan. 31, at Wyoming and Air Force on Feb. 6, vs. Missouri and Oklahoma State on Feb. 14, and Iowa State at home on Feb. 19.

The Big 12 Championship is March 6 and 7 at Tulsa, and the NCAA Tournament is March 18-20 at St. Louis.

Returning local wrestlers include Mars’ Alex Hornfeck and Belle Vernon’s Scott Joll.
