The Pitt volleyball team will take its game international in May when the women embark on an 11-day tour of Europe, with trips to Spain, France and Italy.

Starting May 2, the three-time defending ACC champions will spend three nights in Barcelona, Spain, two each in Toulouse, France, and Nice, France, and three nights in Milan, Italy.

Along with sampling the European culture, the team will play six matches against international teams in Barcelona, Toulouse and Milan.

“The opportunities on this European tour are threefold,” coach Dan Fisher said in a statement. “It will be a time for team bonding and shared experiences, enriching cultural experiences, as well as a chance to play high-level volleyball against international competition. We are excited to take this group overseas in May.”

After the team arrives in Barcelona, the women will take a walking tour of the city, including stops at several neighborhoods and points of interest. Among those is the unfinished basilica La Sagrada Familia that has been under construction since 1882 and isn’t scheduled for completion until 2026.

Pitt will play two matches in Toulouse against the French National Training Team whose members will serve as tour guides and dinner companions.

The stop in Nice features sightseeing in Aix-en-Provence and a tour of the Promenade des Anglais.

In Milan, the Pitt women will visit the Duomo basilica, considered the birthplace of the Renaissance; the Galleria, the oldest active shopping mall in Italy, and the Sforza Castle. Finally, the team will visit Lake Como in Lombardy before heading home May 13.
