Running back V’Lique Carter, who made his Pitt freshman debut in 2018 by rushing for 137 yards and two touchdowns against Duke, said Tuesday he has entered the NCAA’s transfer portal with the intent of transferring.
As a sophomore in 2019, Carter was part of a crowded Pitt running back group, sharing snaps with starter A.J. Davis, Vincent Davis and Todd Sibley. He carried 62 times for 231 yards and caught 16 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns.
Carter, 5-foot-9, 185 pounds, came to Pitt from West Palm Beach, Fla., as a defensive back before finding a home on offense. Coaches also contemplated using him at wide receiver.
Carter’s decision to transfer is not surprising, considering the number of running backs eager for carries. Pitt also has freshman Daniel Carter returning, plus incoming freshman Israel Abanikanda, who signed his letter of intent in December.
