Pitt received its second commitment from a high school junior when running back Rodney Hammond announced his intentions to enroll in 2021.

Hammond, who attends Booker T. Washington in Norfolk, Va., made his announcement Friday after his team’s game.

He is considered a prime target among juniors, and he holds a four-star rating from 247Sports.com and a three-star from Rivals.com. He is rated the No. 16 overall prospect in Virginia and the 35th running back in the U.S., according to Rivals.

He chose Pitt over offers from Michigan, Penn State, North Carolina, Duke, Maryland, South Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Hammond is the second high school junior to give Pitt a verbal commitment, joining West Mifflin outside linebacker Nahki Johnson.
