Surrounded by his teammates on the Elyria Catholic football field, offensive lineman Branson Taylor made a verbal commitment to Pitt on Friday night.

Taylor, rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, is the second offensive lineman in Pitt’s class of 2020, joining Michael Statham of Baltimore. He is the second Pitt recruit from an Ohio high school.

After receiving 21 scholarship offers, Taylor, 6-foot-7, 285 pounds, reduced his choice to two schools – Pitt and West Virginia.

Taylor added a touch of drama to his announcement, setting up a table on the Elyria Catholic track with a banner and hat from each school. When Taylor made his choice, he was mobbed by his teammates.

He also had offers from Tennessee, Purdue, Michigan State, Indiana, Syracuse, Rutgers, Iowa State, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota and Maryland.

Pitt has commitments from 17 prospects four months before signing day.
