Pitt gymnastics coach Samantha Snider has been relieved of her duties after six seasons, athletic director Heather Lyke announced Monday.
Snider’s teams compiled an overall record of 50-83-1, including 10-15 during the 2023 season that ended Friday when Pitt gymnasts Hallie Copperwheat, Natalia Pawlak and Reyna Garvey competed in the National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championship Regionals at Petersen Events Center.
Copperwheat is the first Pitt gymnast since 2016 to qualify in the all-around, but none of the three qualified for the NCAA Finals on April 13-15, in Fort Worth, Texas.
“On behalf of our entire department, I want to convey my deepest appreciation to coach Snider for her passionate commitment to Pitt gymnastics,” Lyke said in a statement. “We wish Samantha the very best in her future pursuits.
“Watching the NCAA Gymnastics Regional Championships at the Petersen Events Center this past weekend only reinforced my belief that our program can be a major contender in the ACC and nationally. As we anticipate the completion of new training and competition venues as part of Victory Heights, the potential for Pitt gymnastics has never been higher. We will conduct the search for our next head coach immediately and I expect the opportunity to attract national interest.”
