Pitt coach Jeff Capel missed on landing a desperately needed big man Monday night when Khadim Sy, a 6-foot-10 power forward from Daytona (Fla.) Community College, announced on his Twitter account he plans to enroll at Ole Miss. He chose from three finalists, the others being Pitt and East Carolina.

Sy began his college career at Virginia Tech, where he started 28 games during the 2016-17 season, averaging 4.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 11.4 minutes. He left the Hokies after the season and transferred to Tallahassee (Fla.) Community College but only practiced with the team. He rejoined Virginia Tech and redshirted during the ‘17-‘18 season before transferring again, this time to Daytona.

There, he averaged 16.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks. He was ranked the No. 3 junior college prospect in this year’s recruiting class by 247Sports.
