Pirates' Tommy Pham appeals suspension for actions towards fans
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Tommy Pham was suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount for inappropriate actions towards fans during Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium, it was announced Friday by Michael Hill, MLB’s senior vice president for on-field operations.
Pham is appealing the suspension, which was set to be served Friday with the Pirates beginning a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Per MLB’s release, the discipline issued to Pham will be held in abeyance until the appeal process is complete.
During the fifth inning of Wednesday’s 3-0 Pirates win, Pham, playing left field, retrieved a double hit to the outfield wall by Travis d’Arnaud.
The television broadcast caught a fan make contact with Pham from the outfield wall seats.

Shortly thereafter in the fifth, Pham was shown making a gesture with his hand in an apparent response to fan heckling.
Pham, 37, joined the Pirates on a one-year contract in February.
Through 23 games, he is slashing .184/.267/.224 with no homers, three doubles and six RBIs.
