The Pittsburgh Pirates suspended bullpen coach Euclides Rojas for two games for violating his contract, the team announced Tuesday night before its game in Cincinnati.

Rojas, 51, has been with manager Clint Hurdle since his first season with the Pirates in 2011.

Overall, Rojas has been with the Pirates for 16 seasons, including as Latin American field coordinator from 2005-2010 and roving minor league instructor in 2002.

Rojas, a native of Havana gained notoriety in 1994 when he fled Cuba with his wife, 2-year-old son and 10 others on a 15-foot raft. They drifted for 41⁄2 days in the Florida Straits between Cuba and Key West, Fla., before being rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Officials said the team will have no further comment on Rojas’ suspension.
