The Pittsburgh Pirates were dealt another blow to their starting lineup and already depleted outfield depth Sunday when they placed Ben Gamel on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring.

Gamel was injured while stealing second base and left in the eighth inning of Saturday night’s 4-2 win over the San Diego Padres. Gamel was slashing .257/.350/.386 with seven doubles, one triple, three home runs and 17 RBIs in 45 games for the Pirates.

The Pirates recalled infielder/outfielder Hoy Park from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace Gamel.

Park batted .214 (3 for 14) with one double and two RBIs in five games with the Pirates before being optioned on April 22. He batted .229 (19 for 83) with two doubles, one home run and seven RBIs in 26 games at Indianapolis.

The Pirates have now lost outfielders Greg Allen (hamstring), Jake Marisnick (left thumb) and Gamel to injuries. Starting catcher Roberto Perez had season-ending surgery on his left hamstring. Shortstop Kevin Newman (hamstring) is on the 60-day IL, and designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach (hamstring) and first baseman Yoshi Tsutsugo (lumbar muscle strain) are on the 10-day injured list.
