The Pittsburgh Pirates signed Dee Strange-Gordon to a minor-league contract, and the 10-year veteran infielder will report to Triple-A Indianapolis, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported Wednesday afternoon.
Strange-Gordon, 33, is a two-time All-Star who can play second base or shortstop. He won the NL batting title, Silver Slugger and a Gold Glove with the Miami Marlins in 2015, when he batted .333, and has a career .286/.319/.360 slash line.
After playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Marlins, Strange-Gordon spent the previous three seasons with Seattle, where he hit .200 in 33 games last year. He opted out of a minor-league contract with the Chicago Cubs after batting .259/.299/.361 at Triple-A Iowa. It was the third time Strange-Gordon failed to make a 40-man roster this year. He signed with the Cincinnati Reds but was released in spring training and again by the Milwaukee Brewers in May.
