The Pittsburgh Pirates parted ways with Jake Marisnick, releasing the outfielder who made some daring diving catches but spent time on the injured list with thumb and toe injuries.
The Pirates released Marisnick on Sunday, one of several 40-man roster moves they made during their game at the Baltimore Orioles. Marisnick, 31, was signed before Opening Day when outfielders Anthony Alford and Greg Allen were injured in the final week of spring training. Marisnick batted .234 with six doubles, two home runs and six RBIs in 31 games and provided strong defense in the outfield.
They also claimed corner infielder Kevin Padlo off waivers from the Seattle Mariners and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis. He has played nine games each at first base and third base in the majors.
Padlo, 26, has batted .143 (5 for 35) in 20 games for Seattle, San Francisco and Tampa Bay the past two seasons. He split this season between the Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays and their Triple-A affiliates in the Pacific Coast League. He was slashing .246/.327/.455 with nine doubles, two triples, 11 home runs and 36 RBIs this season.
The Pirates also added catcher Taylor Davis to the taxi squad after he cleared waivers and was assigned to Indianapolis. Davis had his contract selected for Thursday’s game against Milwaukee but was designated for assignment on Friday.
