Pirates recall RHP Osvaldo Bido, place LHP Bailey Falter on IL, RHP Cody Bolton on taxi squad
After going deep into their bullpen the past two games, the Pittsburgh Pirates added pitching depth Sunday by recalling right-hander Osvaldo Bido from Triple-A Indianapolis.
It will be the third stint with the Pirates this season for Bido, who is 2-5 with a 6.36 ERA and 1.54 WHIP while averaging 8.5 strikeouts and 3.9 walks per nine innings in 14 appearances (eight starts) in the majors. To make room on the 28-man roster for Bido, the Pirates placed left-handed pitcher Bailey Falter on the 15-day injured list with a left neck strain.
Falter started Saturday’s 13-12 win over the Cincinnati Reds, allowing eight runs on nine hits and one walk with one strikeout in two innings. He was 2-2, with a 5.58 ERA in 10 appearances (seven starts) since being acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies for infielder Rodolfo Castro at the trade deadline in August.
The Pirates also added right-handed reliever Cody Bolton (1-0, 6.52 ERA) to the taxi squad.
