The Pittsburgh Pirates placed Colin Moran on the 10-day injured list with fracture in his left hand, the latest setback for the first baseman.

Moran was hit by a pitch in the first inning Monday by Kyle Freeland of the Colorado Rockies and pulled himself from the game. Moran didn’t play in the past two games.

Pirates manager Derek Shelton said the Pirates had a CT scan that revealed a “small fracture.” Moran previously missed 24 games with a left groin strain and two more with back tightness.

To replace Moran on the active roster, the Pirates recalled outfielder Jared Oliva from Triple-A Indianapolis. Oliva, the No. 15 prospect in the Pirates’ farm system per MLB Pipeline, spent six games with the Pirates last September and batted .188 (3 for 16) with six strikeouts.

“I think it could be a combination of both, depending on where we’re at,” Shelton said. “He may get a couple starts in there, but as of right now, it’s just depth.”

Shelton said that Phillip Evans and Erik Gonzalez will split time at first base in Moran’s absence. Shelton called promoting Oliva “the easiest move” for the Pirates because he already is on their 40-man roster.
