Pirates farm report for July 8, 2021: Dee Strange-Gordon goes 0 for 4 in Indy debut

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 28-28) throttled Columbus (Indians) 10-3 after being shut out the previous two games. 2B T.J. Rivera went 2 for 5 with his fourth home run and three RBIs. C Joe Hudson went 1 for 3 with a two-run shot, his third, and three RBIs. 1B Will Craig, LF Bligh Madris, 3B Hunter Owen and RF Fabricio Macias had two hits apiece. Newly signed SS Dee Strange-Gordon went 0 for 4 with a walk and a strikeout. RHP Steven Wright started and earned the win, giving up two runs on five hits in five innings, striking out six.

Next: Friday at Columbus (Indians), 7:05 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 30-24) was thumped by Akron (Indians), 8-1. 2B Josh Bissonette went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. 2B Ji-hwan Bae went 2 for 4 with his sixth stolen base. CF Jonah Davis went 1 for 3 with a run scored. 1B Mason Martin went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts. RHP Travis MacGregor took the loss, giving up six runs on nine hits in five innings. LHP Cam Allred pitched two innings of scoreless relief.

Next: Friday vs. Akron (Indians), doubleheader, 5 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High A, 33-23) was dumped by Asheville (Astros), 13-7. 1B Will Matthiessen went 1 for 4 and hit his third home run. C Grant Koch went 1 for 4 and hit his fourth homer. DH Aaron Shackelford went 2 for 5 with an RBI. SS Liover Peguero went 1 for 2 with a double and three walks. RHP Braxton Ashcraft started and gave up five runs on six hits in 3.1 innings. RHP Alexander Manasa took the loss, giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits in 1.1 innings of relief.

Next: Friday vs. Asheville (Astros), 6:30 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low A, 36-20) split a doubleheader with Clearwater (Phillies) with each team throwing a one-hitter. Clearwater won the opener, 3-0. C Endy Rodriguez had Bradenton’s lone hit, a single. RHP Santiago Florez took the loss, giving up one run on three hits in five innings. Bradenton won the second game, 5-0. RHP Nick Garcia gave up one hit in five innings, striking out five, to improve to 4-2 with a 3.21 ERA. RHP Oliver Mateo pitched two hitless innings of relief.2B Francisco Acuna went 1 for 3 with his first home run, a three-run shot. CF Hudson Head went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
