Pirates farm report for July 10, 2021: Dee Strange-Gordon homers for 2nd straight game

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 29-29) clobbered Columbus (Indians), 11-1. Newly signed SS Dee Strange-Gordon homered for the second straight game, going 1 for 6. RF Fabricio Macias also hit a home run, a three-run shot that was his first of the season. He went 3 for 5. RHP Beau Sulser made a strong start, throwing seven scoreless innings, giving up six hits and no walks and fanning seven. 2B TJ Rivera, DH Christian Bethancourt, LF Bligh Madris, CF Chris Sharpe and C Taylor Davis all had two hits for Indy, which had 15 hits total.

Next: Sunday at Columbus (Indians), 2:05 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 31-26) was tripped up by Akron (Indians), 3-2, despite outhitting the Rubber Ducks, 10-4. LHP Omar Cruz started and pitched 4.2 scoreless innings, surrendering three hits but walking four. His ERA is 1.17. RHP Cristofer Melendez pitched two scoreless innings of relief. 1B Mason Martin went 2 for 4 with a double to improve his average to .278 and OPS to .962. DH Chase Murray went 3 for 3 with a double. 2B Ji-hwan Bae went 2 for 4 with a walk, his seventh stolen base and two runs scored. LF Canaan Smith-Njigba went 2 for 4 with a walk.

Next: Sunday vs. Akron (Indians), 6 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High A, 35-24) beat Asheville (Astros), 4-3, on a walk-off RBI double by 3B Jared Triolo in the bottom of the 10th inning. He went 2 for 4 with two doubles, a walk and his 11th stolen base. CF Matthew Fraizer went 1 for 2 with two walks and a run scored. He’s hitting .329 with a .997 OPS. 2B Nick Gonzales was 1 for 4 with a walk. RHP Carmen Mlodzinski started and left the game with an injury after giving up one run on one hit in 3.2 innings, walking four and fanning three. RHP Austin Roberts earned the win to improve to 3-2 with two scoreless innings of relief.

Next: Sunday vs. Asheville (Astros), 2 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low A, 36-21) lost to Clearwater (Phillies), 7-3, in a game shortened to eight innings by rain. The Marauders were held to two hits, both home runs. 3B Dariel Lopez hit his fourth with one runner on in the first inning. 1B Alexander Mojica hit his sixth, a solo shot, in the eighth. RHP Adrian Florencio took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in five innings to fall to 3-2 with a 2.68 ERA.
