Pirates farm report: 4 Pirates make rehab starts in Indy loss

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 34-35) gave up five runs in the final three innings to lose to Memphis (Cardinals), 6-5. Four players on rehab assignments started. DH Josh VanMeter (finger) went 0 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. 2B Kevin Newman (hamstring) went 1 for 4. LF Ben Gamel (hamstring) went 1 for 4 with a run scored. 1B Yoshi Tsutsugo (back) went 1 for 3 with an RBI. SS Rodolfo Castro (.217) went 1 for 4 with a three-run homer, his sixth. CF Ji-hwan Bae (.311) went 2 for 4 with a homer, his seventh. RHP Mike Burrows (3.68) started and went 4.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits, including a homer, with four strikeouts. RHP Hunter Stratton (1-3, 5.18) took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits in 1.2 innings.

Next: Sunday vs. Memphis (Cardinals), 1:35 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 32-36) gave up two in the ninth to lose to New Hampshire (Blue Jays), 6-5. RHP Quinn Priester (2.57) started and gave up two runs on six hits in four innings. He struck out five. RHP Enmanuel Mejia (1-4, 6.00) got two outs and gave up two runs on three hits to take the loss. 1B Brendt Citta (.250) went 1 for 4 with a three-run home run, his fourth. SS Liover Peguero (.291) went 2 for 5 with a double. C Henry Davis (.163) was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

Next: Sunday at New Hampshire (Blue Jays), 1:35 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 28-39) outslugged Asheville (Astros), 14-10. DH Dariel Lopez (.246) went 2 for 5 with a grand slam, his 10th homer of the season. 3B Ernny Ordonez (.219) went 3 for 5 with a homer, his ninth. 1B Abrahan Gutierrez (.256) went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs. C Endy Rodriguez (.256) went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two walks. 2B Jackson Glenn (.200) went 2 for 5 and drove in a pair. RHP Ricky DeVito (4.59) started and gave up one run on no hits in two innings, fanning five. RHP Domingo Gonzalez (4-2, 6.91) earned the win despite giving up five runs in 2.1 innings. He struck out six. RHP Eddy Yean (7.76) gave up two runs in three innings to earn the save, his first.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 30-37) split a doubleheader with Dunedin (Blue Jays). In the first game, the Marauders scored twice in the seventh to pull out a 2-1 win. SS Deivis Nadal (.230) went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored. PH Jase Bowen had a pinch-hit RBI single. CF Jasiah Dixon also had an RBI single. RHP Carlos Jimenez (3.05) started and allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts in five innings. RHP Darvin Garcia (1-2, 6.31) got the final out of the sixth to earn the win. RHP Yunior Thibo (3.96) pitched a scoreless ninth with three strikeouts to earn his fourth save.

The Marauders were held to three hits, all singles, in a 4-0 loss in the second game. RHP Sergio Umana (1.20) started and worked three hitless innings, walking one and striking out three. RHP Sebastian Rodriguez (0-1, 9.00) gave up a run on two hits in the fourth to take the loss. RHP Carlos Lomeli (8.17) was touched up for three runs on three hits, including a homer, in the fifth. Bowen (.276), RF Rodolfo Nolasco (.210) and Dixon (.412) had singles.
