Penn State New Kensington baseball, softball teams cap spring seasons

The Penn State New Kensington baseball team concluded its regular season last week with a 16-2 loss at Westmoreland County Community College.
PSNK finished the season 7-24 overall with a 3-12 mark in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
The team’s conference victories came against Penn State Fayette and a sweep of Penn State Beaver.
Against WCCC last week, Penn Hills grad AJ Collins had two RBIs in the seventh inning, plating Gateway grad Jared Busche and Plum grad Tim Morris.
Reise Matson (Armstrong) led PSNK in batting this season, hitting .378 with a home run and 26 RBIs. Braden Tristani (Knoch) hit .333 in 17 games, and Busche batted .304 with 12 RBIs. Junior second baseman Tallon Auth (Plum) smacked four home runs and had 16 RBIs.
Nick Osborne and Jake Wilson were the team’s primary starting pitchers, and Mario Gomez, Eric Sonntag, Collins and Matson also started on the mound.
Osborne posted an ERA of 7.05 with 29 strikeouts. Wilson went 2-4 with a 7.27 ERA and 23 strikeouts.
Softball
Penn State New Kensington softball split a doubleheader with Penn State Hazleton late last month, falling 1-0 in Game 1 and winning 8-7 in Game 2. The group then dropped a doubleheader to Penn State Beaver on April 26 to finish the season 5-15 overall and 5-13 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
In Game 1 against Hazleton, Lianna Gonzalez and Marissa Bruns each had doubles, but PSNK couldn’t muster any other hits.
Bruns allowed one run on five hits in six innings and took the loss. The winning run scored on a wild pitch in the second inning.
In Game 2 with Hazleton, Bruns went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Catcher Abby Kane and third baseman Taylor Hill also had two hits and an RBI each. Center fielder Molly Collins, designated player Ashley Encarnacion and second baseman Courtney Biswick also knocked in a run.
Andrea Eiler allowed two earned runs and eight hits over five innings and earned the victory.
PSNK lost seven of its first eight games before scoring a 5-4 victory over Penn State Mont Alto.
After a five-game skid, PSNK swept Penn State Scranton.
After a 10-0 loss to Penn State Beaver in Game 1, PSNK lost 7-4 in the season finale. Kane was 3 for 3, Hill had two RBIs, second baseman Elliott Ferrent was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Bruns was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
