The Pittsburgh Penguins placed forwards Andreas Johnsson, Joona Koppanen and Alex Nylander on waivers Thursday.
Should all three go unclaimed by 2 p.m. Friday, they will be eligible to be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Nylander is the most prominent member of the trio. A first-round pick (No. 8 overall) of the Buffalo Sabres in 2016, Nylander has been a member of the Penguins organization since arriving via trade in January of 2022.
Last season, Nylander appeared in nine NHL games and scored two points (one goal, one assist). With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Nylander was selected as an AHL All-Star in 2022-23 by posting 50 points (25 goals, 25 assists) in 55 games.
The 25-year-old right-hander entered this past offseason as a restricted free agent and re-signed with the team, agreeing to a one-year contract worth $775,000.
This preseason, Nylander has appeared in three games and has scored one goal while recording nine shots.
Johnsson, 28, played in three games this preseason and has no points with four shots. A left-handed shot, Johnsson signed a one-year contract with the Penguins this past offseason that carries a salary cap hit of $800,000.
Koppanen, 25, joined the Penguins this past offseason, agreeing to a two-year contract that carries a salary cap hit of $775,000. The first-year of the deal is a two-way contract while the second year is one way.
In three games this season, Koppanen, a left-hander, has no points and one shot.
