The Pittsburgh Penguins will start goaltender Tristan Jarry for the second consecutive game Tuesday when they host the Washington Capitals at PPG Paints Arena.

Jarry steered the team to a 6-3 home win against the Capitals on Sunday when he made 28 saves on 31 shots.

This season, Jarry has appeared in eight games and has a 3-4-1 record along with a 3.82 goals-against average and an .864 save percentage.

Notes:

• Casey DeSmith is anticipated to serve as Jarry’s backup for the game. He was sidelined during Sunday’s contest as well as Monday’s practice in Cranberry because of an illness not related to covid-19.

Reserve goaltender Maxime Lagace was recalled from the taxi squad Sunday and dressed as Jarry’s backup. Tuesday afternoon, Lagace was reassigned to the taxi squad.

• Coach Mike Sullivan labeled the remainder of his lineup as a “game-time decision.” That would suggest defenseman Marcus Pettersson is in line to return to action after missing nine games because of an undisclosed injury.

In contrast, prior to Sunday’s game, Sullivan announced outright that Pettersson would not play in that contest.

Having played in four games this season, Pettersson has one goal. On Tuesday afternoon, the Penguins activated him from injured reserve.

• The Capitals are scheduled to start goaltender Vitek Vanecek for the 11th consecutive game. On Sunday, he made 32 saves on 36 shots.

In 11 games this season, Vanecek has a 5-3-2 record along with a 3.26 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage.
