Last week, the Penguins announced PPG’s logo would be displayed on players’ helmets for all regular-season and playoff games.

On Tuesday, the organization said sponsorship partner UPMC will have its logo on the Penguins’ helmets for practices this season at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex this season.

“Our partnership with UPMC, a world-renowned healthcare provider, has never been more valuable than now,” Penguins president and CEO David Morehouse said in a statement. “Since the opening of the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in 2015, UPMC has continually helped to ensure our successes both on and off the ice. They have been instrumental in making sure that athletes of all ages at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex perform at the highest levels.”

The deal is part of a partnership program established by the NHL to encourage teams to display advertisers’ logos on their equipment.

The NHL has said it’s part of a temporary measure, adopted for the 2021 season only, to help teams recoup revenue lost to playing in empty or reduced capacity arenas.

It’s also designed to help companies that lost out on exposure during the pandemic, according to the NHL.
