The Penguins continued to boost the bottom rungs of their roster Friday when they signed unrestricted free agent forward Vinnie Hinostroza to a one-year contract worth a league-minimum $775,000 at the NHL level. It is a one-way contract.

Hinostroza, 29, spent the 2022-23 season with the Buffalo Sabres organization, splitting the season with the NHL club and its American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Rochester Americans.

In 26 NHL contests, the right-handed Hinostroza (5-foot-10, 183 pounds) scored 11 points (two goals, nine assists) while averaging 12:36 of ice time per contest last season.

Capable of playing either wing, Hinostorza played in 11 AHL games with Rochester and posted nine points (five goals, four assists).

A native of Chicago, Hinostroza was a sixth-round pick (No. 169 overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013 and has played for the Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes, Florida Panthers and Buffalo Sabres over eight NHL seasons.

In 360 career NHL games, Hinostroza has 148 points (53 goals, 95 assists) while averaging 13:26 of ice time per contest.

With this transaction, the Penguins have 45 players signed to NHL contracts for the 2023-24 season, five short of the league limit of 50, according to Cap Friendly.
