The Pittsburgh Penguins loaned defenseman Jack St. Ivany to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) for a conditioning assignment Monday.

Along with the assignment, the Penguins activated St. Ivany from injured reserve. He was initially placed on injured reserve on Jan. 27 following surgery on a left hand injury. Upon announcing his injury, the Penguins offered a timeframe of “up to eight weeks” for recovery.

A right-handed shot, St. Ivany has been limited by various injuries this season, appearing in only 17 games and posting seven assists while averaging 15:39 of ice time per contest, primarily on the third pairing.

During the preseason, he suffered a suspected right foot injury that sidelined him for much of the first two months of regular season play. During that recovery, he was loaned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for conditioning purposes in late November.

Over that assignment, he skated in five AHL games and posted five points (one goal, four assists).
