The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled rookie goaltender Sergei Murashov from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) under emergency roster conditions.
Those conditions exist as newly-acquired defenseman Brett Kulak and goalie Stuart Skinner are not yet available to fully join the team a day after they were brought on via a trade with the Edmonton Oilers on Friday. Each player is a Canadian citizen and the byzantine immigration process to allow them to join an American-based team is still unfolding.
As they await that clearance, Kulak and Skinner were given a non-roster designation and do not count against the active roster.
Kulak and Skinner came to the Penguins along with a second-round draft pick in 2029, while goaltender Tristan Jarry and forward Sam Poulin were sent to the Oilers.
Murashov made his NHL debut earlier this season, appearing in four games and posting a 1-1-1 record, a 1.90 goals- against average, a .913 save percentage and one shutout.
At the AHL level, Murashov has played in 11 games and has an 8-2-0 record, a 1.56 goals-against average, a .943 save percentage and two shutouts.
The 21-year-old Murashov, who catches with his right hand, is in the second year of a three-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $861,110.
