The Penguins have recalled forward Joseph Blandisi from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis.

The parameters of that emergency are unclear, however. The Penguins did not stage a morning skate in advance of Thursday’s home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and did not have media availability. Coach Mike Sullivan is scheduled to speak with reporters at 5 p.m.

An emergency recall is different from a regular recall in that it doesn’t impact a player’s potential eligibility for waivers.

This is the fourth time this season Blandisi has been recalled this season. In 11 NHL games, he has three points (one goal, two assists). In 12 AHL games, he has seven points (three goals, four assists).

Notes:

• Penguins defenseman Jack Johnson is expected to appear in his 900th career game.

• The Blue Jackets are expected to start goaltender Joonas Korpisalo. In 23 games this season, Korpisalo has a 12-10-1 record along with a 2.81 goals against average, a .903 save percentage and one shutout.

Follow the Penguins all season long.
