With backup goaltender Casey DeSmith’s status uncertain, the Pittsburgh Penguins recalled reserve goaltender Maxime Lagace from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an emergency basis.
According to CapFriendly, Lagace is signed to a one-year two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $700,000.
Lagace, 28, has appeared in nine AHL games this season and has a 4-3-2 record along with a 2.30 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.
While has yet to play for the NHL club, Lagace has dressed as the Penguins’ backup goaltender for three games this season.
Lagace’s recall comes less than 24 hours after DeSmith suffered an undisclosed injury during a 7-2 road loss to the rival Philadelphia Flyers.
Tristan Jarry is scheduled to start in Tuesday’s rematch in Philadelphia.
